NCVI Training

Morningstar received a grant to help with the cost of CPI nonviolent crisis intervention (NCVI) training. We now have a certified NCVI trainer in house to train all staff and offer to volunteers as well.

“Cram the Cruiser” food drive led by L&A Auxiliary OPP raised $1800 and collected a large amount of non-perishable food.

Medical Pilot Program

Began a pilot program with a nurse practitioner from NACHC to offer some medical services to Morningstar clientele that were not connected to a family doctor.

Second Harvest

The Second Harvest program was established with NoFrills to reclaim perishable and non-perishable items that had passed their best before date. Morningstar began receiving a large amount of meat to support our various meal programs.

Air conditioning was installed. Morningstar has never had air conditioning before and with the large number of volunteers, staff and programs running, it was time to make this investment.

Received a grant from PELASS to support our county wide takeout meal program for $41,500.

Morningstar was approved for a technology grant administered by the Community Foundation for L&A and funded by the Federal Government. The grant was valued at $69,000 and will provide new computers, security cameras, updating our donor and client management software, as well as a new website and I.T. and social media support.

Drop-In

The Warming Centre space began offering weekday drop-in for those experiencing homelessness. It was offered from 9:15 – 10:30am and 2:30 – 3:45pm.
